Kathryn (Kay) Dawn Merrell Sublett age 88, of McCoy passed away Saturday, April 19, 2025 at her home. Kay was born on Wednesday, August 19, 1936 in Pontiac, Michigan to the late Durward and Kathryn Silkey Merrell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred L. Sublett (Al) of 66 years of marriage, daughter, Trenece R. Sublett Rowley Check, sister and brother-in-law, Duane and Patricia Merrell Kline, sister, Linda Clayton, nephew, James Kline and her in-laws, Claude and Francie Hungate Sublett whom Kay considered as her second parents. Kay is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Chris D. and Sandra (Sandy) Sublett of Newport, VA. and Michael R. (Mike) and Kimberlee (Kim) of Springfield, MO., son-in-law, Michael Check of Hellertown, PA., nine grandchildren, Brandon and wife Erin Sublett, Andrew and wife Ashley Sublett, Amanda Rowley, Wesley Rowley, Ashley Subllett Wertz and husband Robby Wertz, Jade and husband, Thomas Orange, Jasmine and husband Spenser Ruppert, Nicholas Check, and Chrisy Lam, eight great-grandchildren, five nieces, four nephews and a former son-in-law, Wes Rowley. Kay met Al in Pontiac, MI. while he was there looking for work in January of 1957. They married on June 29, 1957. They moved to Al’s home place in McCoy on October 1967. Kay retired from Electro Tech Corp in Blacksburg, VA. in August 1998 after 18 and a half years of service. Her favorite past time was cooking, baking and planting her favorite flowers, superbell’s in pots on the back and front porch in the spring. She and Al loved to sit on the back porch in the summer, early in the mornings and drink their morning coffee and watch the birds come and go and listen to them chirp and sing. They also liked to travel to visit family and friends and places of historical interest. Kay belonged to Centennial Christian Church Disciples of Christ in McCoy. She was a former member of the choir, a former Deacon. She used her computer to send out prayer concerns to the church members. Her other mission for the church was to send out cards as the need arose. Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at 2:00 pm in the Centennial Christian Church with Pastor Todd Millsaps officiating. Interment will follow in the Centennial Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 pm prior to the service at the church.
