Kenneth Franklin Gibson

With hearts full of gratitude and sorrow, we announce the passing of Kenneth Franklin Gibson, 77, of Roanoke, Virginia on August 6, 2026. Kenny is leaving behind a legacy of faith, humor, resilience, and a stubborn refusal to let life’s hardest moments steal his joy. He had a lighthearted spirit that immediately put people at ease.

Kenny treasured time with his family and friends, enjoyed rounds of golf with his buddies as often as he could, and he thrived working with his dad at Discount Motors, the successful car lot they built together. Their place of business also served as a local daily hangout for friends to stop by and share stories and have a good laugh.

When cancer first entered his life 21 years ago, Kenny faced it with the same faith, hope, and humor that guided him through everything else. He served as a beacon of hope for others facing cancer by sharing how he overcame his own obstacles. He lifted others up, encouraging those who were struggling, cracking jokes when life became heavy, and reminding everyone to lean on faith.

Kenny is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Laurie Gibson; his children, Jason Gibson, Jonathan Gibson, and Lindsay Donnelly; his grandson, Bruce Gibson; his siblings, Sage Gibson, Stephen Gibson (Susan), and Lynn Palmer (Will); and several nieces and a nephew.

His family will remember him not only for the strength with which he faced life’s challenges, but also for the laughter, love, and encouragement he so freely gave to those around him.

A Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 pm on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Simpson Funeral Home on Peters Creek Road. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 2:00 pm, at the funeral home, and the process to Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
