L. "Jane" Whitlow

June 9, 1934 - January 22, 2023

Lockie Mae Janey Whitlow affectionately known as “Jane” passed away Sunday, January 22nd, 2023 in the comfort of her own home in Bassett. She was 88 years old.Jane was born on June 9th, 1934 to the late John Walker and Mary Ruth Hall Janney. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years; Dewey Whitlow Sr. She was also preceded in death by her siblings; Noah Janney, Robert Janney, Shirley Vaughn and Nancy Gibbs. Also awaiting her entrance to Heaven were her precious fur-babies; Princess, Missy, and Angel.Jane is survived by her four children; Patricia (Michael) Ashworth of Bedford, Virginia, Debra (Jerry) Burge, Judy Whitlow-Smith and Dewey E. Whitlow Jr. all of Bassett. She left a lasting impression on her grandchildren; Chris Ashworth, Lisa A. Seward, Susan W. Ashworth, B. Scott Smith, Jessica Hartsock, Robbie Whitlow, Heather Whitlow, Haley Whitlow, and her great-grandchildren; Andrew Seward, Abby Seward, Benjamin Smith, Emma Hartsock, Zane Whitlow, Aubrey Whitlow, Cayden Pruitt. Jane is also survived by siblings; Headley (Linda) Janney, Roy Janey, John “J.J.” (Donna) Janney all of Collinsville, Sister-in-law Hannah Janney of Bassett and Brother-in-law Curtis (Loretta) Whitlow of Axton. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins as well as a dear friend of the family; Sandra Ramsey Stegall. Jane worked many years at Bassett Walker and retired from Fieldcrest Mills in 2000. She was a loving mother who was devoted to caring for her family. Jane was also a dedicated friend to many over the years. Some of Jane’s favorite activities were tending her flowers and vegetable plants, canning foods and collecting owls. Arrangements are being handled by Collins Funeral Home. Services will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023. The family will receive visitors from 11:30 – 1:30. The memorial service will begin at 1:30. The family would like to extend their sincere and heartfelt appreciation to Henry County Public Safety, SOVAH Health - 5th Floor Comfort Care, SOVAH Emergency Dept., SOVAH CCU, Mountain Valley Hospice, and Donna Gravely, NP. A special thanks to mom’s caregivers who treated her like family, LaDonna Widener, Debbie Wood, and Vee Gross.Interment will follow at Henry Memorial Park.
