Larry James Brooks

Larry James Brooks, 79, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away Friday, September 25, 2026. He was born in Frankin County, Virginia on June 28, 1947, to the late Harold Thomas Brooks and Bertha Irene Dorsey Brooks.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Martha Brooks; and brother, Calvin Brooks.

Larry served faithfully in the United States Airforce for 18 years and achieved E6 in rank. He drove as a truck driver for many years. He enjoyed going to the flea markets to sell fishing supplies in Eden, North Carolina, Martinsville, Virginia, and South Carolina in his free time on the weekends. When he wasn’t driving his truck, you could find him reading and watching westerns.

He is survived by his daughters, Sherry Brooks and Shirley Brooks; son, Larry James “Junior” Brooks, Jr; brothers, Roger Brooks, Paul T. Brooks, and Melvin G. Brooks; numerous grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
