Larry Lawrence Adkins
Larry Lawrence Adkins passed away May 5, 2023 at the age of 75. He is preceded, in death by his parents Lawrence and Flora (Burress) Adkins. Larry is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia, daughter Heather, aunts, uncles, cousins, and an extended scouting family.Larry was born in Mann, WV and eventually moved to Troutville, VA. He graduated from Lord Botetourt High School and from Virginia Western Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science. Georg Fabricius said “Death comes to us all, but great achievements, they build a monument which shall endure until the sun grows cold.” Larry discovered his love of scouting when he joined Troop 136. He would spend over 50 years participating in scouting, whether it was being a scout, leading a troop, being on the Council, or cooking at scout camp. Larry achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, attended Woodbadge training, received the Silver Beaver Award, and was a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow. He was a well-respected and liked scout leader and was able to impact so many lives. Larry retired from General Electric as an Electrical Engineer and from the Health Department as an Outreach Specialist. He was passionate about his wood-working hobby and was an avid reader of Louis L’Amour and Clive Cussler books. He liked to travel and explore new places. The family would like to thank everyone for their support during this difficult time and sharing stories of how Larry impacted their lives. A memorial fundraiser has been set up by David Sligh to help youth who want to get into scouting but are unable to afford it.
