Larry Vincent Scales

Larry Vincent Scales, 75, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at Sovah Health Martinsville. He was born on December 12, 1950, in Henry County, Virginia, to the late George Henry Scales, Sr. and Claudia Brim Scales.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Chauncey Scales and Michael Scales.

Larry was a graduate of G.W. Carver High School. He was a member of Mayo Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the Usher Board; and attended Reach out Apostolic Church. An avid sports fan, Larry especially enjoyed baseball and excelled in the sport.

Larry leaves to cherish his memory his two daughters, Clarissia “Reese” Scales of Charlotte, North Carolina and Lavinia Scales of Reidsville, NC; one son, Landon Scales in Greensboro, NC; one sister, Claudia Scales of Ridgeway, Virginia; one brother, George Scales, Jr. of Ridgeway, Virginia; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three aunts; three uncles; his caregiver, Kim Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Mayo Missionary Baptist Church, with Pastor Dwight Mack officiating. The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Mayo Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. A floating visitation will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service – Martinsville Chapel. The family will receive friends other times at the home of his sister, Claudia Scales, 3044 Horsepasture Price Road, Ridgeway, Virginia 24148.
