Today, we gather to celebrate the incredible life of Laurie Dove, a woman whose heart knew no boundaries, whose love knew no limits, and whose kindness touched countless lives. Born into a bustling household filled with siblings, she grew up surrounded by the laughter and challenges of a large family. From an early age, she embraced the role of a caregiver, helping to raise her brothers and sisters with patience and love. That selflessness became the cornerstone of her life. She was not just a mother to her own daughters but a mother to anyone who needed one. She opened her heart and her home to children and adults who sought comfort, guidance, and love, offering a safe haven for those in need. Her arms were always open, her smile always warm, and her words always full of wisdom. Her will was stronger than anything that life threw her way, her faith was her strongest weapon. As she always said, “If there is a will, there is a way.” Raising her daughters was her greatest joy, and she poured every ounce of her soul into giving them the best life possible. But her love didn’t stop there. Her nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and even the children of friends and neighbors all felt the impact of her nurturing spirit. To her, family was not defined by blood but by the bonds of love and care she so freely offered. Never meeting a stranger, taking them in with open arms. Independence was an understatement for her. She was a jack-of-all-trades who taught her children they could achieve anything they set their minds to. She never turned her back on family, always putting their needs before her own. Throughout her cancer journey, she never lost her faith, her will to live. Her positivity, always having words of encouragement to give to her family and all those she loved, she never stopped despite the battle. Her life was one of quiet heroism—giving without expecting, loving without conditions, and serving without hesitation. She found joy in the simple moments: a shared laugh, a helping hand extended, or a family meal that brought everyone together. Her strength was unparalleled, her dedication unwavering, and her ability to make everyone feel valued and loved was truly extraordinary. Though her time with us was far too short, her legacy of love and selflessness will endure. She showed us all the power of a life lived with an open heart and a giving spirit. As we say goodbye, let us carry forward her lessons of compassion and care, and strive to honor her memory in the way we live our own lives. As a family, we would like to give immense thank you and our gratitude to Shan Fairbanks DO, Jordon Smith Np of Carilion, Dr. Joseph Monk and David Asher of Blue Ridge Cancer Care, very special nurse Kimberly Golding with Blue Ridge, as well as Dr David Smith at Lewis Gale Montgomery Hospital for the upmost care given to our mother/wife and going above and beyond utilizing all skills necessary for life saving measures.
