Leo Joseph Wynne
Leo Joseph Wynne, BUCS (SCW), USN (Ret.), passed away peacefully at his home in Martinsville, Virginia, on August 11, 2026, following a hard fought two year battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Leo was born on October 27, 1963 in Detroit, Michigan, and grew up in the Oscoda/Mikado, Michigan area.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Michael James Wynne and Ellen McCarthy Nash; and his siblings, Michael Wynne and Aprilan Nash.
In addition to his soulmate and wife of 20 years, Catherine, he is survived by his children, Bryan Ludwig, Anna Wynne, Lance Wynne, and Cheyenne (Isaac) Flowers. He was so proud of the things his children, now adults, have accomplished. He is also survived by his siblings, John Wynne and Judy Petit; and brother-in-law, Frank Lindblad. Lastly, he is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Leo retired from the United States Navy after 21 years of active duty service in 2003 at the rank of Builder Senior Chief. Leo was very passionate about the Navy, especially being in the Seabees, and continued supporting the Naval Facilities mission in a contractor and civil servant capacity, retiring again in 2024. Leo took happiness in shooting, hunting, and his most recent hobbies in retirement included splitting firewood and playing with his tractor and skid loader. Leo also doted over his puppy dog, Bella, and tolerated his cat Ally. The thing Leo loved most though was making people laugh, calling people “dog tag,” “shower shoe,” and using the term “HOOYAH” as a substitute word for just about anything or anyone. Leo’s infectious energy and warm smile will be deeply missed by most anyone who has ever had the pleasure of meeting him.
