Leslie Peters

June 21, 1940 - September 3, 2024

Leslie Peters, 84, of Madison Heights, VA, entered into his eternal rest on September 3, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Leslie was known in his community for having a servant’s heart, having been an active member and lifetime deacon of Randolph Memorial Baptist Church. In addition to his service with his church, he served 38 years at the Meade Corporation, and found time to bring fun to Amherst County when he opened and operated Leslie’s Danceland. Leslie was a good steward, yet a very generous husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He loved to work with his hands - building cradles, rocking horses, train tables, toy chests, even homes, for his loved ones. When he wasn’t working on a project or riding around town with his special “buddies” the late Carlton Wingfield and the late Edwin “Zip” Bomar, he could be found out on fishing trips, on the tennis court, playing cards with his friends and family, vacationing with friends, or enjoying a Sunday afternoon NASCAR race. Leslie was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Echols Peters and Berta Mae Peters; one daughter, Angelia Dawn Higgins; and siblings: Ralph Peters, Jr, June Paulette, Neil Peters, Raymond Peters, and Harold “Gene” Peters. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Roma Lee Adcock Peters. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Sherri Lynn Woodward (Thomas) and Cynthia Peters Hunter (Mark); two sisters: Peggy Staton and Betty McCauley. Also left to treasure his memory are his grandchildren: Lauren Higgins, Kelsie Saunders, Caleb Hunter, Todd Higgins, Karlan Saunders Hamilton (Colin), Micah Hunter (Madison), Eden Hunter; and one great-granddaughter, Mallory Hamilton. The family would like to extend special thanks and gratitude to Dr. Holmes, Amber, and Roberta with Centra Hospice for their exceptional care. The Peters family will receive visitors at Randolph Memorial Baptist Church, located at 4246 S Amherst Highway, Madison Heights, VA 24572, on September 6, 2024 from 6:00-8:00pm. A service celebrating Leslie’s life will be held at Randolph Memorial Baptist Church on September 7, 2024 at 12:00 noon. Graveside service to follow at Briarwood Memorial Garden in Amherst, VA. In lieu of flowers, the Peters family asks that you consider donations to the Randolph Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund.
