Lieutenant Colonel John F. Bobbitt

October 27, 1937 - October 25, 2024

Lieutenant Colonel (retired) John F. Bobbitt of Advance, NC died October 25, 2024 at his residence in Roanoke, Virginia.

He was 86, was born October 27, 1937 in Hoke County to Woodrow W. Bobbitt and Annie Buffkin Bobbitt. He served in the United States Army 25 years including an 18-month tour in Vietnam and overseas tours in Germany and Korea. He received the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star and many others. After retirement he worked for the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System from 1982 – 2002 serving as the Director of Army Instruction for the Junior ROTC program. Afterwards he was able to really pursue his love of golf and spent many wonderful days with his friends at the Oak Valley Golf Course in Advance, NC. John was a member of Parkway Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem.

He is preceded in death by his father; mother; brother, Thomas W. Bobbitt; and his wife, Deane S. Henson, the love of his life.

He is survived by two daughters, Charleen Ramirez of Camerillo, CA and Cara B. Shumate of Herndon, VA; two sons, John F. Bobbitt II of Palm Springs, CA and Michael A. Bobbitt of El Centro, CA; and one beautiful sister, Frances B. Davis.

Family and friends can visit at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem, VA on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 from 5:00 until 7:00 pm.

There will be a private burial at Sherwood Memorial Park where he will be with his wife, Deane.

A memorial service for John will be held in Winston-Salem, NC at a later date.
