Lilburn Martin

LILBURN MARTIN, JR., 88, of Rocky Gap, VA, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2024, at his home. He was born November 22, 1936 in Roanoke, VA, the son of the late Viola Helmandollar Martin.

Lilburn was a member of Rocky Gap Methodist Church.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a three state champion in archery competitions.

He had a jokester sense of humor.  He was an ice cream connoisseur and enjoyed his snacks.

He was a loving father, like no other, and will be greatly missed by those who loved him.

Lilburn was preceded in death by his mother, Viola Esther Helmandollar Martin; his wife, Janice Darlene Simpkins Martin, his brother, Gerald Martin and his sister-in-law, Freda Simpkins.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Randy Martin and Ronnie Martin and his ex-wife, Diana; his daughter & son-in-law, Janet & Tony Lambert; his grandchildren, Sarah & Justin Carter, Hannah Martin, Kayla Lambert and Taylor Lambert;  special adopted grandchildren, Leslie Gilbert and Eric  Gilbert; his brother & sister-in-law, Kenny & Barbara Martin and his special pet companion, “Sadie”.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 5, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Rocky Gap Methodist Church with Pastor Rodney Lawson officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with military rites provided by the Bland American Legion Post# 20 and Bland VFW Post# 7969.  

The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00 P.M. until service time, 2:00 P.M.
