Lizzie "Liz" Betty Barbour Dodson

Lizzie “Liz” Betty Barbour Dodson, 86, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Lizzie was born on May 24, 1938 in Pittsylvania County, VA to the late Lillian Barbour Meadows and the late Logan Meadows. She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Mr. Luther Bee Dodson Jr.

Liz was of the Christian faith. She was a member of the Good Sams RV Club, and The Antique Classic Car Club. She worked for many years as a mail contractor for the U.S. Postal Service, previous to her retirement.

In addition to her husband, Liz is survived by three daughters; Cindy Roach (Lee), Tammy Hardy (Butch), and Penny Dodson (John) all of Danville, VA; four grandchildren; P.J. Soffriti, Joshua Soffriti (Emily), Jason Hardy (Bryan), and Jaimie Strauser (Aaron); one great granddaughter; Hailey Marie Soffriti; her special pet dog; Lucky and pet bird; Giz; and special caregivers; Dale, Christy, Kathy, Betty, and Frances.

In addition to her parents, Liz was predeceased by her sister Arlene Huff.

The family would like to extend a special thank you as well to the loving and caring staff at Commonwealth Hospice for all of their love and support during this time.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that memorial donation be made to the American Alzheimer’s Association National Chapter, 3550 S. Clark Street, Suite 203, Arlington, VA 22202.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 2:00pm at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel, 3995 Franklin Turnpike, Danville, VA with pastor Mr. Clifton Dodson officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park. A visitation will be held prior to the service on the same day from 1-2:00pm also at Norris Mt. Hermon Chapel, Danville, VA. At other times, the family will be receiving friends at the residence.
