Lloyd Donald Joyce
Lloyd Donald Joyce, 84, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at Sovah-Health Danville. He was born on October 21, 1941, in Bassett, Virginia, to the late James “Roy” Joyce and Vinie Hester Cassell Joyce. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Sam Joyce, and his sister, Carol Joyce Brown.
Lloyd was a faithful and devoted attendee of Stanleytown Amazing Grace Baptist Church, where his kind spirit and steady presence were deeply appreciated by those who knew him. He was an avid golfer who found great joy and fellowship on the course, and he rarely met a stranger. Lloyd was also a hardworking and respected businessman who built and operated Budget Rentals and Sales with dedication, integrity, and pride for many years. His strong work ethic, generosity, and commitment to serving others left a lasting impression on his community and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by his four children: Carol Joyce Ottaway and her husband, David; Karen Joyce Rodriguez and her husband, Roberto; Donny Joyce and his wife, Tammy; and daughter Vinie Gail Joyce. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Roberto Rodriguez Jr., Richard James Rodriguez, Summer Joyce Ratliff and husband, Wesley—who shared a very special bond with Lloyd—Alana Christine Ottaway, and Evan Donald Joyce.
Also left to cherish his memory are his great-grandchildren, Audrey Elizabeth Ratliff and Lucas Wesley Ratliff.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2026, at Old Center Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Lloyd will be remembered for his love of family, his unwavering dedication to his work, and the kindness and wisdom he shared with others throughout his life. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him and will be treasured for generations to come.
