Lois Chattin Hurdle Obituary Lois Mae Chattin Hurdle, 93 of Salem, Va passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at Brookdale South. She was predeceased by her parents, James F. Chattin and India Dearing Chattin as well as her husband of fifty-six years, Dandridge Penn Hurdle, Sr.Lois Is survived by her children, Nancy Hurdle and Dandridge Hurdle, Jr. (Anna); two grandsons Dandridge “Pete” Hurdle, III (Eden) and Blaine Hurdle (Holly); great-grandchildren, Fern and Atticus Hurdle. Additional survivors include a brother Charles Chattin (Marie) and numerous nieces and nephews. Her remaining siblings “Dick” Chattin (Garnell), Sherman Chattin (Edith), James Irvin Chattin, Jewell Hale (Willie), Robert Chattin, Helen Creasy (“Shorty”), and Alice Nolen (Toby) all preceded her in death. Lois grew up in Chamblissburg, Bedford County, and moved to Salem as a young bride, where she became a homemaker and mother. She was an active member at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. In 1964, Lois was named “Mother of the Year” by both the City of Salem and Roanoke County. Lois was an excellent cook, seamstress, a crafter, and loved to travel. In most recent years, Lois worked at the Senior Citizen’s Center in Salem. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 11 a.m. at East Hill Cemetery located in Salem, Va with Reverend Ned Morris officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 13, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home located in Salem, Va.
