Lorraine Booker

March 29, 1935 - January 5, 2025

Lorraine Fleshman Booker, eldest child of the late Martha Eames Fleshman and the late Virgil Fleshman went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 5, 2025. She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Ann Fleshman, brothers Lloyd Fleshman, Curtis Fleshman and Robert (Buster) Fleshman.

Lorraine was born on March 29, 1935 in Appomattox, Virginia. She joined and was baptized at the Promise Land Baptist Church at an early age.  She served as the Church Clerk for many years, sang in the Senior Choir and was a beloved elder to the members of Promise Land during her more than 80 years of church membership. She loved people, enjoyed baking, gardening, sewing, and quilting.

Lorraine graduated from Carver-Price High School, class of 1953.  In 1955, she joined in holy matrimony to the love of her life and best friend, Charles Albert Booker, Jr. From this loving union there are six children.

Lorraine worked tirelessly at the Amelia Dress Company in Appomattox County. She retired in 1996 after mastering the cherished skill of dressmaking.

For more than 30 years, our beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend valiantly fought health issues, without complaints or excuses.  She was most proud of her children and how they personify the goodness of God, and she loved her church.

Those who will cherish her memory are her loyal and committed husband, Charles Albert Booker, Jr.,  devoted children; Marie Forest, Larry Booker (Pam), Betty Lee, Cecil Booker (Jackie), Janet Booker, and Alvin Booker; adoring grandchildren, Frank Forest, Jr., Keith Forest, Torria Landry (Neal), Daina Beecher, Donna Powell, Ashlee Lee, Dr. Jordan Booker, Chas Oliver (Liza), Candace Lee, and Kendal Booker; loving great-grandchildren, Keith Forest II, SaDonna Powell, Savannah Beecher, Nadia Lewis, Johanna Beecher, and Malcolm Koch. Lorraine is also survived by her siblings, two caring sisters Annie Mae Thornton and Nannie Watkins (James); brother, George Fleshman; brothers-in-law Bobby Booker (Betty), Charlie (Gus) Evans, sisters-in-law; Phyllis Booker, and Gwendolyn Fleshman. Lorraine was blessed with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Lorraine Fleshman Booker will be missed. Gone but not forgotten.

Our Queen, Our Heart, and Our Always and Forever Love. Rest in Peace.

Mrs. Booker's Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Promise Land Baptist Church, 5562 Promise Land Road, Appomattox, VA.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
