Lorraine "Dale" Hahn

August 12, 1944 - March 19, 2024

Lorraine “Dale” Hahn, age 79 of Roanoke, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend joined our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 after a five-month battle with cancer. She is predeceased by John, her soul mate and husband of 52 years. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Patrick); her grandchildren, James (Sara), Johnathan, Michael, and Jennifer Henderson; as well as her son, John (Tanya); and their children, Evan, Grace, Ethan, and Ellis Hahn.

Dale was born on August 12, 1944 in Brooklyn, NY to Ralph and Lorraine Mazza. She was the oldest of four siblings, all surviving her: Lee Ann Ferriola (Bob), Ralph Mazza (Jackie), and James Mazza (Trish). Dale cherished her family and is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and their spouses.

Dale’s happy childhood was spent in Gerritsen Beach and Breezy Point, NY. She received the Girl Scout Gold Award and was the drum major of her church marching band. She was active in the Luther League and was baptized, confirmed, and married at St. James Lutheran Church in Brooklyn.

Dale graduated from Sheepshead Bay High School in 1962. She worked at The Home Insurance Company, where John saw her and fell in love. Dale and John were married in 1963 and moved to Roanoke in 1970 when John brought the Atlantic Company to the Roanoke Valley. Dale was a pivotal part of John’s career as he created more than 1000 jobs over 30 years.

Dale enjoyed community service and was a member and past President of the Athenian Society. While living in New Jersey, Dale was an active member of the PEO sisterhood. Dale was a proud American and a passionate supporter of Military service members, Law Enforcement personnel and Emergency service personnel. Dale was a world traveler eager to share her travel experiences. She made friends easily. She especially cherished the friendship she had with Mrs. Vivian Frank and her lunch bunch ladies.

Her faith was unwavering. She was a true example of a Proverbs 31 Christian woman and a devoted member of St. John Lutheran Church where she actively served for over 50 years. She always looked forward to her Community Bible Study group. Friends both old and new were always in her thoughts and prayers.

Dale was very thankful for the people God put on her path as her illness progressed. Special thanks to Blue Ridge Cancer Center, Carilion Home Care, and Good Samaritan Hospice for being blessings in dark times.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, 4608 Brambleton Avenue, Roanoke, VA 24018. A reception will follow the service.
