Louise Carpenter Akins
Louise Carpenter Akins, 78, of Ridgeway, Virginia, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2025, at Sovah Health of Martinsville. She was born August 10, 1946, in Tennessee to the late George Arthur Carpenter and Velma Husky Carpenter.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Judy Moore and Reba Carpenter; brothers, Roy Carpenter, Jim Carpenter, Robert Carpenter, Eugene Carpenter, and Zeke Carpenter.
Louise was a cherished member of New Beginning Apostolic Church and a devoted homemaker. Her cooking skills delighted family and friends, and she had a deep appreciation for bluegrass music and dancing. Louise enjoyed watching westerns and sci-fi programs on television. Her willingness to volunteer and assist family members highlighted her compassionate nature. She was an honest sweet-hearted individual, she had a calming presence and a remarkable ability to bring joy and laughter to those around her. Her nurturing spirit extended to all, embodying the qualities of a loving mother and friend to everyone she met.
She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Ricketson, Tina Leonard, and Betty Farmer (Jesse); son, James “Tony” Hannah (Belinda); sisters, Wanda Wickers, Linda Smiley, Caroline Carpenter, Sharon Carpenter; brother, Alvin Carpenter (Pricilla); eight grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, March 6. 2025, at 2:00 PM, at Wright Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Wayne Handy officiating. Interment will follow at Fair Haven Memorial Park. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
