Lovanda Gail Meldick

January 30, 1953 - January 27, 2024

Lovanda “Vondie” Meldick, 70, of Salem, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 27, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Roanoke, Va., on January 30, 1953, to the late Charles Thurman and Pauline Nichols Radford, she is also preceded in death by her brothers, Carter Radford and Raymond Radford; sister, Joyce Artrip; and special friend, Helen.

Vondie loved to laugh, had a quick wit, and had quite a sense of humor. She was very outspoken and didn’t hesitate to speak her mind, but she did so with the best of intentions. Vondie was a social butterfly and was in her element in social and family gatherings. She knew no stranger and if she met a stranger, they were friends by the time they parted ways. Vondie was very loving and always put the needs of others before her own. She was a faithful member of Wake the World, formerly known as Faith Fellowship. Above all, she adored her family.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving spouse of 54 years, Kaye Meldick, of Salem; sons, Chuck Meldick and wife, Betsy, of N.C. and Joey Meldick and wife Laura, of Idaho; grandchildren, Chelsea Pridgen and husband, James, of N.C., Miranda Castelloe and husband, Zack, of N.C., Nathan “Taterbug” Meldick, of Salem, Va., and Patrick Byrum, of Charlottesville, Va; great-grandson, Hunter Pridgen; sister, Doris Fulcher, of Salem, Va.; sister-in-law, Faye Radford, of Bonsack, Va.; former daughter-in-law, Michelle Basden, of N.C., as well as numerous nieces and nephews, close friends, and their families.

There will be no services at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Angels of Assisi by visiting https://www.angelsofassisi.org/donate-now/

The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice for the compassionate care given both to Vondie and their family.
