Lucy Eunice Shrader Childress

LUCY EUNICE SHRADER CHILDRESS, 92, of Bastian, VA, went to be with the Lord she served faithfully on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. She was born May 15, 1931 at Niday, VA, the daughter of the late Pyott Frazier & Mary Susan Crabtree Shrader and the last remaining member of her immediate family.

Eunice was a devout Christian and a lifelong, dedicated member of Bastian Union Church. She had a wonderful sense of humor who was the constant jokester and loved to have fun. She was a quilter and enjoyed teaching others about quilting.  She was a volunteer dispatcher for the Bland County Rescue Squad for many years.  She had many friends and people who loved her and she will be greatly missed.

Besides her parents, Eunice was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Trubie Childress, her grandson, Paul Harless, her brothers, Irvan Shrader, H. Watha Shrader, William Shrader, Daniel Shrader and Ellis Shrader and her sisters. Lillian Burton, Mary Shrader, Linzie Cochrane and Blanche Walker.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters & son-in-law, Mary & David Harless and Cathy Childress; her grandchildren, Andrew & Lindsey Harless, Carl & Melissa Williams and Emily Williams; great-grandchildren, Conner Williams and Ollie Harless; and several nieces, nephews and special friends. 

Graveside services will be held Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Rose Hill Cemetery, Bastian, with Pastor Barry Busby officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in Eunice’s honor to the Bastian Union Church Building Fund, 29 Bears Trail, Bastian, VA 24314.
