Lydia Hudson Gallier

September 4, 1937 - February 11, 2025

Lydia Hudson Gallier, age 87, passed away at her residence on February 11, 2025.

Born September 4, 1937 in Amherst County to the late Thomas Clayton Hudson and Erma Duff Hudson. She was the wife of the late Oscar Fitzgerald Gallier Jr. for 54 years.

In addition to the above, she was preceded by her son, Rodney Gerald Gallier and Brian Keith Gallier, sister, Lorine Bacher, brother, Thomas Clayton Hudson, Jr., sister-in-law, Linday Moon Hudson, daughters-in-law, Pamela and Cindy Gallier, and nephew, Freddie Williams.

She is survived by son, Stanley W. Gallier and wife Sherry Gallier, daughter-in-law, Sara Gallier, grandchildren, Rodney Gerald Gallier, Jr. (RJ) and significant other, Angelita Fitzgerald, Amanda G. Johnston (CJ), Jenny G. Thacker (Brian), Devin Wade Gallier (Anita), great-grandchildren, Taylor G. Humphrey (Hunter), Hailey G. Johnston (Matthew), Laci and Jordan Gallier, Carly and Cooper Johnston, Jackson and Afton Thacker, Amelia and Elijah Gallier, nieces, Jeanie Champlin (Rob), Jeanette Belanger (Michael), nephew, Curis Williams (Leslie).

Lydia graduated from Madison Heights High School and Phillips Business College. She retired from Craddock-Terry Shoe Corporation after 40 years of service as a secretary and customer service manager in the special make-up division. She was a member of the ABWA. She worked with the Madison Heights Dixie Youth Baseball for 10 years and was the secretary to the late R. Leroy Floyd, then president. She attended all sports games like basketball, softball, and track. She was also involved in school activities such as band, chorus, cheerleading, and theater where her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participated in.

Lydia loved going to the beach, NASCAR racing, and camping, but most of all, just traveling and discovering new places. Lydia took a 3,000-mile road trip with her son, Rodney, Sara, and the 20-year-old cat named Lucky. They ended up in California at her grandson’s, Devin, home. She was a Nationals, St. Louis, Eagles, and UVA fan. She loved her family and was a caregiver to many and was known as “Nanny” to everyone. She even loved to attend her church, Clifford Baptist Church, where she shared so many memories with her church family.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 1 pm at Clifford Baptist Church on Fletchers Mill Road in Amherst Va. Pastors Jeffery Campbell and Mike Fitzgerald will be officiating. Family will receive family and friends one hour prior to the service starting at 12 pm. Internment will take place at Briarwood Memorial Gardens in Amherst Va.
