Macon Michaux Pettyjohn
- February 7, 1933 to June 6, 2026 -
Born in Lynchburg, VA, he was the son of Macon Michaux Pettyjohn and Esther Gilbert Pettyjohn.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings David Randolph Pettyjohn, Linda Pettyjohn Davis, Parmalee (Lee) Rogers Pettyjohn, and stepmother Rosa F. Pettyjohn.
His paternal grandparents were Walker Pettyjohn and Mary Raine Pettyjohn of Lynchburg and his maternal grandparents were Roy Gilbert and Stella Randolph Gilbert of Owensboro, KY.
He is survived by one brother, Richard Graves Pettyjohn in Bluffton, SC, his nephew John Davis and his family in Belmont, NC, and his close friend Glenda Shoemaker in Lynchburg.
Michaux was a graduate of Virginia Military Institute (VMI) with a Civil Engineering degree. Later in his career, he earned a MBA degree from Darden School of Business, University of Virginia.
He was commissioned as a second lieutenant upon graduating from VMI and spent several years in the U. S. Army, stationed in Europe and assigned to the NSA.
Returning from the Army, he was employed by Babcock & Wilcox (B&W). He continued his engineering career at his father’s company, Steel Construction.
When his father retired, he was employed by McDermott International, heading up their Nassau Bahamas location. Upon retiring in the mid 1990s, he moved back to Lynchburg.
Michaux was a staunch supporter of VMI and the Izaak Walton League. The best part of his day was spending time with his friends at Charley's Restaurant.
There will be a celebration of Michaux's life visitation Saturday, June 27, at Whitten Timberlake Funeral Home from 10:30 - 11:30 AM. A private inurnment at the Pettyjohn cemetery will occur Sunday, June 28.
