Malinda Chumley Newby

Malinda Chumley Newby, 82, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2026, surrounded by her family. Malinda was born in Pittsylvania County, VA on March 13, 1944 to the late Lucy Kirks Chumley and the late Raymond Wade Chumley. She was also predeceased by her loving husband of many years, Mr. Larry Wayne Newby.

Malinda was an active member of Samuel Harris Baptist Church, where she served as church treasurer for many years, and was active in the WMU. Malinda was a loving Homemaker to her entire family, whom she dearly loved.

Malinda is survived by two daughters; Nancy Eaton (Butch) and Jamie Stowe (David) both of Chatham, VA; a son; Karl Newby (Stacie) of Chatham, VA; five grandchildren; Joshua Shields (Amber), James Newby (Erika), Jessica Hutcherson (Brandon), and Dixie Stowe and Lane Stowe.

In addition to her parents, and husband, Malinda was predeceased by three sisters; Patricia C. Giles, Carolyn C. Mattox, and Gladys C. Riddle.

A Graveside Funeral Service will be conducted on Friday, May 15, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Hillcrest Burial Park, Chatham, VA. A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026 from 6-7:30 pm at Samuel Harris Baptist Church, 525 Samuel Harris Lane, Chatham, VA 24531. At other times the family will receive friends and family at the residence.
