January 20, 1955 - April 29, 2024

Marc Alain Thomas, 69, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2024, after a valiant struggle with a long-term illness.

Born on January 20, 1955, at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, to Lt. Colonel Robert LeRoy Thomas and Christiane Legras Thomas, Marc was a lifelong adventurer. Raised in a military family, he traveled the world, experiencing diverse cultures and forging lasting memories and relationships.

Marc’s spirit of service extended beyond his upbringing. He proudly served his country in the Army from January 1976 to April 1980. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Marc embarked on service, for over 20 years, to other veterans and his community. His willingness to put others first and his dedication to his country continued throughout his lifetime.

Marc’s life was forever changed when he received a liver transplant 27 years ago. This incredible gift allowed him to live a fulfilled life with his loving wife, partner and best friend, Gail Philpott Thomas.

Marc was preceded in death by his parents, who resided in Williamsburg, Virginia, and his four brothers, Robert, William, Pierre, and Paul.

Marc is survived by his loving wife, Gail Philpott Thomas; 3 sisters-in-law, Nancy, Brenda and Sarah; David Philpott (brother-in-law); Ann Philpott O’bier (Sister-in-law), and many nieces and nephews; his loving K9 friend, Marcelle and his cat, KC.

Marc will forever be remembered for his positive attitude toward life, never meeting a stranger, and his engaging smile.
