Margaret Crowder

June 28, 1953 - March 21, 2024

Margaret Crowder, beloved wife, mother, and friend, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, March 21, 2024, enveloped in the love of her family.
Margaret was born in Christiansburg, Va., on June 28, 1953. Margaret was a faithful woman who loved her Lord, family, co-workers, friends, and her church family at Valley Word Church, of which she and her husband were founding members and attended for over 40 years. She volunteered and served in various ministries and functions at their church. She was employed by Anthem Blue Cross for almost 40 years. After marrying her husband “Bill,” the couple moved to Floyd County where they lived for 10 years; while there, their son, Stewart was born. Margaret is preceded in death by her father, Donald Shank; son, Stewart Crowder; brother, Wayne Shank; brother-in-law, Gary Crowder and his wife, Shelly Obenshane Crowder, and Sandy Downs Crowder.
She is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Crowder; mother, Nancy Stewart Shank, aunt, Sis Helton; very special cousin, Dottie Helton and William Standard; special cousin, Shirley and Willie Smith; as well as, Ted Randolf.
The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude for their Valley Word family, Pastors Eddie and Debbie Crabtree; special friends and Pastors Steve and Shelia Willis of Valley Harvest Church in Dublin, Va.; very special thanks to the staff of Gentle Shepherd Hospice, especially their nurses and friends, Pam, Sara, and Heather for the care and love shown to Margaret. Lastly, a very special thank you to Dottie Helton for all the love, compassionate care, and support given for Margaret.
A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held at 12:00 p.m., on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, in the chapel of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, with Pastors Steve Willis and Eddie Crabtree officiating. Interment will be held privately with her family at Piedmont Cemetery in Shawsville, Va.
Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Gentle Shepherd Hospice of Roanoke, Va.
