Margaret Jean Walker
Mrs. Margaret Jean Walker passed away quietly at the home of her son on September 29, 2025, after living a wonderfully fulfilled life.
Jean was born in Goodland Kansas on December 11, 1925, to Earl Elsworth McKenzie and Myrtle E. Hall. She had one sister and two brothers, all of whom preceded her in death.
Jean married her childhood sweetheart, Norman Lee Walker at the First Presbyterian Church in Goodland, Kansas on November 17, 1949. They lived in Kansas, Illinois, Washington, New Jersey, and New Orleans before settling in Lynchburg, Virginia. Jean and Norm traveled the world extensively visiting many countries in Asia, Europe, and Africa.
Among many things, Jean enjoyed gardening, golf, bridge, sewing and dancing. She was also a volunteer for many organizations including the P.E.O., GE Wives Club, Meals on Wheels, Brownie leader and Sunday School teacher.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; her daughter Kathy Jean Sandvig; and Kathy Sandvig’s husband Robert Sterling Sandvig. Surviving family are her son Steven Lee Walker and his wife Katrina Hurst Walker; her daughter Karen Walker-Cooke and her husband Robert Andrew Cooke; six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and six great great-grandchildren.
A Graveside service will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 11:00 at Virginia Memorial Park, 11490 Forest Rd, Forest, Virginia and a Memorial service on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 11:00 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Rd, Lynchburg, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, P.O. Box 91891, Washington, D.C. 20090-1891, www.nationalmssociety.org.
