Marie Faye Markham Hughes

Marie Faye Markham Hughes, 78, of Big Island, died Saturday, January 26, 2019. She was born in Lynchburg, VA on May 18, 1940 a daughter of the late Leonard Thomas Markham and Ola Wilson Markham Smith. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Kenneth Gene Mitchell, Sr. and her second husband George William Hughes, Jr.; two brothers, Frank Markham, Lewis Markham; sister, Edith Mitchell and her husband, Cary; niece, Ola Michelle Markham; and nephew, Kevin Andrew Mitchell. She was retired from Rubatex and was a member of Hunting Creek Baptist Church, Chestnut Hill Free Will Baptist Ladies Auxiliary, and the Recycle Team. She is survived by her son, Kenneth G. Mitchell II; daughters, Jeanne Marie Watson and husband Christopher, Connie Nicely and husband Vincent; grandchildren, Timothy Laughlin and wife Tammy, Terry Laughlin and wife Sarah, Katherine Watson, Amanda Watson, Aaron Nicely, Ashley Nicely; great-grandchildren, TyLee Laughlin, Chase Laughlin, Hailey Laughlin, and Cody Ouellette; two sisters, Delores “Punkin” Wilson and husband, Riley, Barbara Campbell and husband, Brent; brother, Ernest “Blue” Markham and wife, Emma Jean; sister-in-law, Bessie Markham Christian and husband, Ray; many friends, nieces, and nephews. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at Hunting Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Bledsoe officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends for a time of gathering and food following the services in the church fellowship hall. People are encouraged to bring a covered dish to the church.
