Martha Jane Patterson

Martha Jane Patterson, formerly of Appomattox and then of Chatham, VA, passed away November 22, 2024. She was the daughter of W. Diuguid and Joyce Doss Patterson, both of whom predeceased her. Her brother, William Thomas Patterson, lives in Roanoke with his wife, Anne Marie.

Jane was born October 11, 1946 and spent her young life in Appomattox. In her adolescent years she moved with her family to Chatham. After High School, Jane worked at Chatham Knitting Mills and then, when her father retired, the family moved to Smith Mountain Lake. During her years living on the lake, she immensely enjoyed visits from family and friends who came to boat, swim and picnic-most especially she loved the children, her cousins, nieces and nephews. Several years after Diuguid’s death, Jane and her Mother relocated to Friendship Assisted Living in Roanoke, where she remained even after Joyce’s death. At Friendship she enjoyed meals (without having to do the dishes!), bingo, games, puzzles, music performances and good friends.

Jane was a helper. She helped her parents in the garden and in the home and she helped her friend, Emma, run the clothing boutique at Friendship. She always had little gifts and special “goodies” for the children she loved.

A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 from 1-2:00pm at Norris Funeral Services, Chatham Chapel. That will be followed by a Celebration of Life Funeral Service at 2:00pm, with Pastor Joey Bray officiating, also at Norris Chatham Chapel. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Burial Park in Chatham.
