Mary Ann Pichon Moore

October 2, 1938 - September 3, 2024

Mary Ann Pichon Moore, age 85, of Shelby, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2024 at home with her husband of 66 years, Dr. Laurence Moore.
Mary Ann, a native of Vermillion County, Illinois, was born on October 2nd, 1938. Mary Ann was the daughter of the late Fabein and Ruth Pichon. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Ellen Moore; son, Steven Moore; and three brothers: Harry, Bill, and Fabein Pichon.
Mary Ann initially attended the University of Illinois on a full math scholarship. After raising her four children, she realized her career goals and graduated from Virginia Tech University after completing her undergraduate and Master's Degrees. She worked in the President's office of Virginia Tech for over 20 years as a computer programmer and data analyst, writing software to track alumni data after graduation.
When Mary Ann was at home, she used her brilliant mind to organize her family's many activities. For every outside boy-scouting event, Mary Ann was organizing indoor troop events. She also orchestrated family trips, hosted prestigious Virginia Tech faculty events, and taught her children about housekeeping and homemaking.
As a grandmother, Mary Ann was a lady who loved spending time with her family. Whether they were taking a sewing class together, quilting, doing puzzles, or talking politics, Mary Ann was most happy spending time with her children and grandchildren, as well as her beloved cats and dogs. Mary Ann was also known for her love of travel and adventure. Mary Ann and Larry traveled all over the world, and especially enjoyed using their travels as a way to connect with family over the holidays.
Left to cherish and remember the life of this amazing woman is her husband Dr. Laurence Moore; son Jean Moore (Kim); daughter Susan Moore; six grandchildren: Karmen Bonar (Justin), Branden Harless (Brittany), Khloe Moore, Eliot Moore (Hannah), Courtney Moore, and Eric Moore; nine great-grandchildren: Jake Key-Harless, Julian Cooper, Ellen Moore, Jack Bonar, Orion Surface-Moore, Naomi Lee, Jameson Bonar, Chance Moore, and Cora Moore.
There will be a memorial mass to celebrate the life of Mary Ann at 2 o’clock PM on Saturday, September 21st, 2024 at St. Jude Roman Catholic Church, 1740 Tyler Rd., Christiansburg, Virginia, 24073. Inurnment will follow at the St Jude columbarium.
Because higher education is so important to the Moore family, in lieu of flowers the family has requested any memorials be made to the Great-Grandchildren's College Fund, Atten:
