Mary Anne Martin Motley

November 2, 1928 - June 3, 2025

Mary Anne Martin Motley, aged 96, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025 at Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care. She was born in Danville, VA on November 2, 1928 to the late Anne Blanch Clements Martin and the late Henry Clay Martin. Mary Anne was married to her loving husband, Wister Norman Motley, for 69 years prior to his death in March, 2019.

Mary Anne was a lifelong Baptist and a longtime faithful and active member of both Woodberry Hills Baptist Church and subsequently Moffett Memorial Baptist Church. Her service to the churches included a children’s Sunday School teacher, a Sunday School class secretary, and a Women’s Missionary Union member. In her senior years, she and her husband enjoyed activities and travel with Prime Timers, the senior group at Moffett Memorial Baptist Church. In addition to her church activities, she enjoyed baking and decorating cakes and cookies for family, extended family, church functions, and friends. She loved to cook elaborate meals for family at holidays, birthdays, and special occasions, and Mary Anne thought any weekend could be a special occasion.

Mary Anne is survived by her three daughters, Judy Bristow (Hunter) of Williamsburg, VA, Linda Pittman (Steve) of Raleigh, NC, and Ellen Carlton (Roland) of Staunton, VA; her seven grandchildren; Laura Hileman (Geof), Ben Bristow (Jenny), Ashley Bartley (Phillip), Jordan Bristow (Rachel), Mary Beth Herron (A.J.), Phillip Carlton, and Raven King (Nick); and her twelve great grandchildren; Kellen Hileman (Lauren), Addie Hileman, Ishbel Bristow, Francis Bristow, Elijah Bartley, Sage Bartley, Wilder Bartley, Skylar Bristow, Lexi Bristow, Kayden Herron, and Louie Herron. She is also survived by her sister, Louis Roberts of Raleigh, NC.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Moffett Memorial Baptist Church, 1026 North Main Street, Danville, Virginia with Rev. Jonathan Hilliard and Rev. Lee Ellison officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park. A visitation to receive friends and family will be held prior to the service from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m., also at Moffett Memorial Baptist Church.
