Mary Everlene Hines

Mary Everlene Tate Hines, 92, of Ridgeway, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. She was born on January 20, 1934, in Bedford, Virginia to the late Charlie Gordon Tate and Lottie Myrtle Greer Tate.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Allen Hines; son, Bobby Lynwood Hines; sisters, Jerlene Stewart and Bessie Tate; brothers, Charlie Tate, Howard Tate, Wayne Tate, and Gordon Tate; and brother-in-law, Robert Fears,

Mary attended Summersett Baptist Church. She retired after 33 years at Fieldcrest Cannon. She was known as a hardworking, dependable woman whose greatest joy came from caring for those she loved. She especially enjoyed preparing meals for her family, and her kitchen was a place where love was generously served alongside every dish.

She was a Godly woman that lived a life marked by kindness, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and love. She found her greatest joy in caring for those around her. She was a constant source of wisdom, encouragement, and comfort; leaving a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a family that will miss her deeply and honor the legacy of love and compassion she shared throughout her life.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet Hines Griffin (Roger); her sons, Carl Allen Hines (Sherry), Glen Matthew Hines (Marilyn), and Barry Clinton Hines (Amy Dalton); her sisters, Bernice Fears and Gail Tate; her brother, Jesse Tate (Diane); seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many friends.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 10, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Martinsville Chapel. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Ridgeway, Virginia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
