Mary Lou Couch

Mary Lou Gordon Couch, 80, of Ridgeway, Virginia, entered her heavenly rest Sunday, August 16, 2026. She was born April 2, 1946, in Russell County, Virginia, to the late William J. Gordon and Nannie Phillips Gordon.

Mary was a woman of Christian faith and a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. She was actively involved in her community through her service with the Horsepasture Rescue Squad. Mary enjoyed a variety of interests, including traveling throughout the United States and playing cards. She was an avid cook who enjoyed preparing incredible meals for family and friends. The joy she brought to those around her will always be cherished.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Dunford; brothers, William J. Gordon, James F. Gordon, and Douglas Gordon.

She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Couch; daughters, Connie Couch of High Point, North Carolina and Michelle Slusher of Ridgeway, Virginia; brother, Woodrow L. Gordon; grandchildren, Victor Drake Slusher (Jenny), Matthew Jacob Slusher (Sarah), Joshua Lowell Causey; great-grandchildren, Caden Wyatt House, Athena Joi Causey, Rachael Paige Causey, Lillyanna Causey, Madison Grace Slusher; furbaby, Willie; and multiple grandfurbabies and great-grandfurbabies.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Woltz Hospice Home, Mountain View Hospice House, and all of their staff, especially Dr. Waite, for the love, care, and dignity they provided for Mary in the last days of her journey.

A funeral will be held Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Martinsville Chapel. Interment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park, 103 Clearview Drive, Martinsville, Virginia. Visitation will be held Friday, August, 21, 2026, from 3:00-6:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Martinsville Chapel
