Mary "Polly" Pauline Martin

Mary Pauline “Polly” Martin, 90, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. Born on November 10, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Luther A. Oliver and Susie Wright Oliver. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert L. Oliver and her son-in-law, Rodney L. Manning.

Polly was a member of Fort Trial Baptist Church. A devoted mother and grandmother, she treasured time spent with family and friends. She loved music and was extremely proud of her talented grandsons, both multi-instrumentalists. Her joy of reading brought her to the Blue Ridge Regional Library where she worked for 15 years before retiring. Polly had a creative flare and enjoyed decorating, cooking, and gardening. She also liked traveling to explore new places.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Gene Martin of the home; her daughter, Leah Manning of Bassett; and her two grandsons, Matthew and Trenton Manning of Clarksville, TN, along with a host of extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel, with Pastor Susan Spangenberg officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park.

Following the service, the family will receive friends for a time of fellowship at the home of Leah Manning.
