Mary Ryland Deel

Mary Ryland Deel, 70, of Fincastle, died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at Lewis-Gale Medical Center.

Born in Roanoke, VA, on April 6, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Russell Ryland Deel and Mary Lucy Obenshain Deel. Mary was an active member of Mill Creek Baptist Church where she served as a deacon and was a member of the choir. She was a graduate of Longwood College. Mary was employed at Granite Memorials and later Howells Motor Freight. After retiring, she enjoyed volunteering at Solomon’s Mission, working at Rader Funeral Home, and exercising at the Botetourt Family YMCA.  

She is survived by her sister Judy Lee Deel of Fincastle, VA; a nephew John Russell (Rusty) Alvis and his wife Stephanie; a niece Jennifer Alvis Perry and her husband Mark; four great-nieces Morgan Watson and her husband Jacob, Madison Alvis, Marissa Perry, and Isabella Perry; one great-great-niece, Olivia Joy, and one great-great-nephew, Levi Russell, all of Concord, VA. She is preceded in death by her sister Edith Annette Deel Alvis.

The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home on Sunday, August 4, 2024, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm.

Funeral services will be held at 11am, Monday, August 5, 2024, at Mill Creek Baptist Church with internment following in the church cemetery.
