Mary Williams Parcell

Mary Williams Parcell, 90, of Bassett, VA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Sovah Health of Martinsville & Henry County surrounded by her family. Mary was born November 15, 1933, in Bassett, VA to the late Reverend Wilbur Williams and Annie Bowles Williams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Carson Parcell, her siblings J.T. Williams, Frances Hayden, Lucille Jones, Wilbur Williams, Jr., and her son-in-law, Steve Setliff.

Mary grew up in Stanleytown and attended Bassett High School. She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church. She worked alongside her parents at Williams Restaurant/Cafeteria for many years. After 15 years of service, she retired from Tultex. Mary loved to cook, decorate for holidays, and enjoyed crafting, becoming very good at coloring pictures for family and friends in her later years.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Cathy Frazier (Mike) and Carol Setliff, granddaughters, April Hodnett (Bo Moore) and Amanda “Mandy” Gordon (Chris), great grandsons, Mikel Carter (Keinita), Reyven Hodnett, Ethan Hodnett, 3 great-great-grandchildren, and loving nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Norris Funeral Services in Martinsville. The visitation will take place on Sunday, April 28, 2024, from 1:00-3:00pm with a memorial service held on Monday, April 29, 2024, at 1:00pm. Graveside service will be private. Additionally, visitations will be at the

home of her daughter Carol.
