Max Ray Bailey

Max Ray Bailey, 91, passed away on Monday, June 10, 2024, in Martinsville, Virginia. He was born on December 4, 1932, to the late James Gillespie Bailey and Edna Earl Jessee Bailey. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Arlene May Bickel Bailey; brothers, Joseph Aaron Bailey, Thomas Alva Bailey, Benton J. Bailey; and one sister, Evelyn Bailey Crussell.

Max honorably served in the United States Air Force for four years. He was a Quality Control Engineer until his retirement. Later in life, he took on extra work for leisure as a delivery driver for Advance Auto Parts. Max was an avid storyteller and loved to make others laugh. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends.

Max is survived by six children; James Ray Bailey, Sheryl Lynn Gabrielle (Kevin), Stuart Kenton Bailey (Carolyn), Matthew Joseph Bailey, Jennifer Bailey Guthrie (Edmund), Patrice Noel Biegar (William); twelve grandchildren, Meg, Connor, Emma, Hunter, Shannon, Katie, Caroline, Samantha, Christian, Andrew, Ethan, and Bailey; twelve great-grandchildren; and one bonus daughter, Denise Campbell Lowe.

A Memorial Service will take place at a later date.
