Melba Forbes

Melba Louise Vess Forbes, age 94, of Water Tank Road, Millboro, Virginia died Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at her residence.

She was born January 3, 1930 in Clifton Forge, Virginia to the late Emory Nichol Vess and Louise Roscoe Marshall Vess. She was a retired seamstress for Jane Colby and Kool-Dri and also a member of Millboro Christian Church. Melba loved watching wresting and spending time in her flower garden. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Bryant Forbes; a son, Ronnie Forbes; a brother, Garnett Vess; three sisters, Alice Nichols, Betty McGlothin, Catherine Windsor; son in law, Joe Smiley Jr.; and a great grandchild.

She is survived by two daughters, Janet Plecker and husband, Craig and Teresa Smiley; two sons, Randy Forbes and wife, Kathy, Dennis Forbes and wife, Stephanie all of Millboro; thirteen grandchildren, Shannan Waldeck, Christopher Plecker, Monica Plecker, Lawanda Ryder, Bobbie Jo Van Ness, Shawna Argabright, Ryan Forbes, Cody Forbes, Casey Forbes, Nathan Forbes, Amanda Burke, Jacob Smiley and Justin Smiley; nineteen great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at 2:00PM in the Chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Pastor Lloyd Via officiating. Interment will follow in Millboro Christian Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Christopher Plecker, Jacob Smiley, Justin Smiley, Mark Forbes, Andy Forbes, Jimmy Forbes, Forrest Waldeck and Hunter Waldeck. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at Nicely Funeral Home.
