Melissa Lynn Hayes

Mrs. Melissa Lynn Darnell Hayes, 60, of Ararat, VA, passed Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at LewisGale Hospital Montgomery in Blacksburg. Mrs. Hayes was born in Forsyth County on January 14, 1963, to the late Elbert Darnell and Doris Long Darnell. She was a loving homemaker who will be dearly missed. Mrs. Hayes was a member of Volunteer Primitive Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Roger Hayes; stepsons, Tracy Hayes, and Terry Hayes; a brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Rhonda Young. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her first husband, Gene Hawks; her stepfather, Fred Young. A funeral service will be held Sunday, July 16, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Volunteer Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Jimmy Joyce and the Rev. David Lambert officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at Volunteer Primitive Baptist Church. The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Northern Regional Hospital and the staff of Twin County Hospital for the love and care given to Melissa during her illness.
