Michael Lee Adkins
Michael Lee Adkins, 75, of North Myrtle Beach, SC and formerly of Danville, VA, passed away on July 3, 2024, at the Grand Strand Medical Center, Myrtle Beach, SC after a brief illness. He was born on December 13, 1948, in Danville and lived most of his life there. He was the son of the late James Oliver Adkins, Sr. and the late Estelle Wallace Adkins. He was married to Susan “Sue” B. Adkins, who survives, of the residence.
Michael attended Wampee Baptist Church, Longs, SC and retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber, Co, where he worked for 33 years in the banner unit. He was a member of the Goodyear retirement club S.O.A.R. Michael loved golf and bowling and was inducted into the Danville Bowling Hall of Fame. Michael and Sue loved to travel and made many trips to Las Vegas. Competitive by nature and spirit, it was said that he would “make a way to win” in most competitive events.
In addition to his loving wife, Michael is survived by two sisters, Brenda Boyd (Bobby) of N. Myrtle Beach, SC and Susan A. Davis (Donnie) of Danville, as well as a numerous nieces and nephews. While not related by blood, Michael and Sue became like family to their neighbors, John Striker and wife Mandi. Through the friendship and bond with John and Mandi, they became ‘Grandpa Mike’, and ‘Grandma Sue’ to the Striker children, Seth, Makenna, and Hollie Striker.
Mike was predeceased by a son, Michael “Mikey” Lee Adkins, II, and a brother, James O. Adkins, Jr., as well as his parents.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 8, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Norris Funeral Services, Mt. Hermon Chapel, 3995 Franklin Turnpike, Danville, VA 24540, officiated by Pastor Tyler Caines. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park, Danville. The family will receive visitors from 2:00 – 2:45 p.m., immediately prior to the service, also at Norris Funeral Services, Mt. Hermon Chapel.
At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of Michael’s sister, Susan Davis, at 305 Hickory Court, Danville, VA.
