Mildred "Millie" Mills Apgar

Mildred Mills “Millie” Apgar, 92, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 15, 2024.

Mille was born on December 15, 1931, in Montgomery County, Va., daughter of the late Lee and Glady Mills of Lafayette, Va. She attended nursing school for three years at Lewis Gale Hospital and graduated as an R.N. on September 17, 1952. Millie loved traveling with Don to some of the Southwestern and Pacific Northwestern States. A favorite site for years was the Ocean at Myrtle Beach S.C.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Donald David Apgar; brothers-in-law, Fred and Mickey Apgar.

She leaves behind sisters-in-law, Jan Apgar, Ruth Glock, and Charlotte Apgar; nephew and honorary grandson, Greg Apgar (Angie); nieces, Beth Peters (Todd), Donna Blankenship (James), Suzanne Burch (Jeremy); nephew, Brian Glock, and her faithful and beloved friend, Linda Marshall. Numerous special great nephews and great nieces also survive.

A special thanks to caregivers, friends, and family; Sue Graham, Jeff Worth, Revonda Walters, Pat Gray, Dennis & Beverly Mills, Dawyn Steve & Trevyr Schutz; Erin Hall, Carolina Apgar & daughter, Lillian, Donna Blankenship & granddaughter, Riley.

Funeral services to honor Millie’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, with Pastor Mike Neuse of Crockett Springs UMC in Shawsville, VA, and Pastor Emory Tarpley officiating. The interment will be held privately at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem.

Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at the funeral home.
