Mollie Harrelson Melton
Mrs. Mollie Harrelson Melton, age 87 of Stuart, Virginia went to her Heavenly home on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at the Joan and Howard Wotz Hospice Home in Dobson, North Carolina. She was born in Marion, South Carolina on March 7, 1937, to the late Arthur Blake Harrelson and Clara Odell Johnson Harrelson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin Harrelson and Arthur “Shot” Harrelson; and one sister, Mary Frances Horres. Mrs. Melton was a faithful former pastor’s wife and member of Sycamore Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, was a member of the Hostess Committee, and also the Vacation Bible School Refreshment Committee. She enjoyed quilting, attending to her flowers, and growing a garden. She was a wonderful nurse for 40 years. She will be remembered for her strong faith in the Lord, devotion to her family, and her marvelous cooking.
Left to cherish the memories of Mrs. Melton are her devoted husband of 63 years, Rev. Gerald Melton of the home; two daughters, Bernice Ann Lanning of Stuart and Elizabeth Gail Jones (Ronell) of Gladys, VA; five grandchildren Mollie Jordan Reedy (Tanner), Dylan Raymond Jones, Benjamin Gerald Lanning (Amanda), Brendon Thomas Lanning (Bre), and Remington Arthur Lanning (Liz); one great-granddaughter, Astrid Lynn Lanning; one sister, Catherine Sue Price (William) South Carolina; one sister-in-law, Glenda Harrelson of Marion, South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Mrs. Melton will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Sycamore Baptist Church with Pastors Gary Combs and Shaun Draughn officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday afternoon from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sycamore Baptist Church, C/o Nancy Midkiff, Treasurer, 171 Sycamore Church Lane, Stuart, VA 24171.
