Myrta Beck Harrison
Myrta Beck Harrison, 85, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 3, 1940, to the late Howard Monroe Beck and Hennie Ethel Whisnant Beck, in Morganton, North Carolina. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by three siblings, Reverend Robert Beck, Arthur Beck, and Sara Green.
Myrta married Richard, her high school sweetheart, on Valentine’s Day, in 1958. Their marriage has been an example to so many and has only grown deeper with time. She worked for Memorial Hospital for 35 years in the non-invasive lab. She was a member of and faithfully attended Fieldale Baptist Church where she was an active leader working with children and youth. She was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union.
Myrta had a love for travel, and her favorite place was the beach. She was able to share this joy with her family through many memorable trips to Myrtle Beach. Those vacations became treasured traditions for her family. She also visited Hawaii three times. She loved cooking and planning family get-togethers. Her other interests included knitting, singing, and shopping. As a beloved mother figure to many, she opened her home and heart to everyone, embodying the spirit of generosity and compassion. She was a great example of how to care for others. Her family will forever cherish the memories, love, and support she always provided.
Myrta leaves behind the following family members to cherish her legacy: her husband of 67 years, Reverend Richard E. Harrison; children, Tammy McGee, Rhonda Gregory (Randy), and Barry Harrison; grandchildren, Jessica Cole (D.J.), Ciji Lankford (Terry), Taylor Bayliss (Brent), and Brooke Alverson (Jay); great-grandchildren, Addison Cole, Austin Cole, Zachary Lankford, Mackenzie Lankford, Caleb Lankford, Raelyn Bayliss, Colton Alverson, and Sadie Alverson; Great-Great-Granddaughter, Iris Low; special granddaughter, Olga Kaniukina; and many other extended family and friends. The family would like to extend special thanks and appreciation to Mountain Valley Hospice, and Myrta’s caregivers, Tammy Clark and Sara Piechota. Your love and support will always be cherished.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 2:00 PM, at Norris Funeral Services – Martinsville, with Pastors Alan Jackson and Jason Alverson officiating. The family will accept guests one hour prior to the service.
