Nancy Manspile Fitzgerald
Nancy Manspile Fitzgerald, born on April 25, 1939, in Buchanan, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at the age of 85. Nancy was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend who touched the lives of many with her kind and giving spirit.Nancy retired from Lynchburg City Schools after a dedicated career as a food service worker. She was passionate about cooking and took great pride in creating meals that brought joy to her family and friends. Known as a "mother to everyone," Nancy opened her heart and home to all, including neighborhood children who fondly remember her warm and welcoming presence. She was selfless, always putting the needs of others before her own and looking out for those around her with unwavering care.Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Preston Fitzgerald Sr.; her parents, James Emory and Inez Lee Ayres Manspile; and two brothers and two sisters.She is survived by her loving children: Janet Kramer (Zane), Angie Pearson (David), Dewey Fitzgerald Jr. (Sara), James Fitzgerald (Kristy), Patrick Fitzgerald (Sarah), and Mark Fitzgerald (Kathy). She was also survived by 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and one more great grandchild that is expected in March of 2025. Nancy also shared a close and cherished bond with her devoted friend, Carol Sue Walker, whom she considered a daughter.The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Guggenheimer Nursing Home and Lynchburg General Hospital for their compassionate care of Nancy.A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 2 p.m. at the Clearview Baptist Church Cemetery, with Pastor Zane Kramer officiating.Arrangements are under the care of Whitten Timberlake Chapel.
