Nancy Prillaman

April 19, 1928 - September 28, 2024

Nancy Long Prillaman, of Martinsville, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at King’s Grant Retirement Community. She was born April 19, 1928, in Middletown, Virginia, to the late Raymond L. Long and Edna Owings Long. Mrs. Prillaman was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Nick Prillaman, Jr. A graduate of Middletown High School, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Art from Madison College in 1949. Mrs. Prillaman was a member of The First United Methodist Church in Martinsville, where she was an active participant in the Sheppe Bible Class and the Wesley Guild. The Nancy Long and Nick Prillaman, Jr. Classroom and Laboratory at Martinsville’s Patrick Henry Community College was established by a gift to the college from the Prillamans in support of the chemistry program, and they also sponsored an Endowed Chemistry Professorship at the college. Mrs. Prillaman served as Regent of the Patrick Henry Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a member of the National Society of the Dames of the Court of Honor, President of the Greenwood Garden Club, and a founding officer of the Henry County Woman’s Club. She participated in several nondenominational Bible study and prayer groups. She enjoyed tennis, bridge club and the Blue Ridge Grasshoppers golfing club, as well as dear friends and activities at King’s Grant. One of three children, Mrs. Prillaman was predeceased by sisters Evelyn L. Ilgenfritz of Martinsburg, WV and Rachel L. Manual of Middletown, VA. She is survived by two children, Hunter Long Prillaman (Eva Szabo) of Potomac, MD, and Stephanie P. Roberson (Chip) of Martinsville, three grandchildren, Austin Riggs Roberson (Hailey) of Martinsville, Nathan Charles Prillaman (Cyndi Chen) of New York, NY, and Ruth Taylor Prillaman of Los Angeles, CA, and two great-grandchildren, Charlotte Mae Roberson and Micah Li Prillaman. She is also survived by her dear friend and companion, Jim Minter. A funeral service will be held at Norris Funeral Home Martinsville Chapel on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
