On Friday, December 2, 2022, Nancy Rigney Thompson departed this life and went to her heavenly home to be with Jesus and her loved ones already there. She was born July 27, 1941 to the late Sam and Lillie Hodges Rigney. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Lynwood Atkins, her sister, Virginia Foley (Alvin), her brothers, Clyde, Arthur “Peanut”, Roy “Buster”, Cleatis, Sam, and Charles Wayne, her nephew, Troy Foley and her niece, Sandra Rigney.
Nancy loved her family dearly and left to carry on that love and cherish her memory forever are her children, Annette Dalton, Vicky Robertson (Gabriel), Vernon Atkins and Timothy Thompson (Denise), the apple of her eyes, her grandchildren, Emily Steele (Devin), Beau Robertson, Brad Dalton and Victoria Robertson, her great-granddaughter, Kenzie Steele, her nieces and nephews.
Nancy loved her Lord and was a life-long member of Henry Fork Church of the Brethren. She was also a hard worker and retired after many years of service to Ronile (Martin Processing). The greatest joy of her life was time spent with her family, going to Myrtle Beach, Pigeon Forge or just sitting around the kitchen table talking. She also took great joy in time spent with her dear friends, especially card games with her best friend Earlene Crowe and friends Pat Hodges and Mary Lou Denis.
The family will receive friends Saturday, December 3, from 6-8 p.m. at Henry Fork Church of the Brethren. The funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the church with Pastor Ronald Coleman officiating. Interment will follow in the Rigney Family Cemetery.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Henry Fork Church of the Brethren, 130 Doe Run Road, Rocky Mount, VA.
