Nancy Rita Lea Shockley

December 17, 1953 - April 5, 2025

Nancy Rita Lea Shockley, 71, of Salem, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2025, while in care of the Good Samaritan Sheila Strauss Hospice House. Born December 17, 1953, in Roanoke, Va., to the late Lonnie Eugene Shockley and Mary Edwards Bandy, she is also predeceased by her brothers, John Shockley and Tracy Shockley, as well as her sister, Marsha “Susie” Gregory.

Originally born in Roanoke, the Shockley family moved to Salem in 1976. Nancy finished her high school education later in life and attended college and was ordained as a minister in the Metaphysical Church in Roanoke. She served in many capacities within the church, from creating the bulletins to serving as a board member. Rev. Nancy also helped to lead people in paths of Spiritual Healing. She took great joy in performing weddings and grieved with families who requested that she preside over a loved one’s funeral. Nancy worked for Roanoke County for many years, until her retirement. She is remembered for having the uncanny ability to do anything and everything that she put her mind to, whether it be sewing, drawing, or even building a deck! She was a beloved sister, aunt, cousin and friend.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sister, Donna McCormick; nieces, Whitney Pruett and husband, Benjamin, and Honey Whorley; nephews, Christopher Shockley and Howard Elliott Gregory; great-nieces, Olivia and Skylar Pruett; aunt, Betty Shockley and her best friend, Patricia Artz.

The family will welcome friends for a time of visitation on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., in the Upper Parlor of John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home, Salem.
