Nellie Harris Rivers

Nellie Harris Rivers went to be with her Lord on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at her home. She was born on July 19, 1931, to the late Stowell Herbert Harris and the late Gypsy Cockram Harris. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Claude Patterson Rivers; two brothers, Cecil Harris and Calvin Harris; and a sister, Miriam Boyd.

Nellie was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Bassett and had a deep love for reading her Bible. She worked in the textile industry until her retirement.

She is survived by her son, Claude Phillip Rivers, and daughter-in-law, Mary Rivers, both of the home. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Caroline Harrison (Curtis), Bryan Rivers (Mechelle), and Adam Rivers; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Giles Harris and Tillie Harris; sisters, Reva Wilson, Veda Dunford, and Blondell Gwynn; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Blackberry Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers, support and many acts of kindness. A special thank you goes to Mountain Valley Hospice for their wonderful care and concern for Nellie and her family over the past two years.
