Nellie "Nell" Ruth Gwyn Ayers

Mrs. Nellie Ruth “Nell” Gwyn Ayers, 90 of Cana, passed away on Thursday morning April 30, 2026, at Hillsville Health and Rehab. She was born September 26, 1935, in Surry County to the late Guy and Kate Cox Gwyn. Mrs. Ayers is survived by her; sons, Bruce Ayers and wife Norma, Shannon Ayers and wife Leesa; grandchildren, Matthew Ayers and wife Kara, Bradley Ayers and wife Kayla, Grace Worrell and husband Jake, Ryne Ayers and wife Jasmine; great grandchildren, Cameron Ayers, Rylan Ayers, Hayden Ayers, Madison Ayers, Holden Ayers, Hannah Worrell, Will Worrell, and Delaney Worrell; three sisters, Louise Utt, Faithie “Toots” Hall,, and Judy Sheets; and several other family and friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ayers was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, James “Jim” Wilson Ayers; and a great grandson, Ellis James Worrell. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday May 17, 2026, at 3:00pm at Cedar Lane Baptist Church in Cana, VA. Visitation will be from 2:00 – 3:00pm at the church. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the memory care unit at Grayson Health and Rehab for all of the love and care given to Mrs. Ayers. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Willow Hill Moravian Church Cemetery Fund, 577 Willow Hill Rd., Ararat, VA 24053; or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
