Norma Matheney Swearengin

October 18, 1941 - January 27, 2024

Norma Dale Matheney Swearengin, age 82, of 3297 Deerfield Road, Millboro, Virginia went to her Heavenly home on Saturday, January 27, 2024.

Norma was born on October 18, 1941 in Bath County, Virginia to the late Daniel Jackson Matheney and Ida Mae Riley Matheney. She was a retired Radiology Technician for Bath Community Hospital, and a member of Rehobeth Community Church of Millboro. She enjoyed wildlife, her flower garden, and gardening, and bird watching. She loved cooking, canning, and playing Yahtzee.

In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Lester Swearengin; four brothers, Daniel “Buddy” Matheney, Homer Matheney, Howard Matheney, and John Wayne Matheney; and four sisters, Emma Ross, Mabel Smith, Jane Williams, and Nettie Williams.

She is survived by seven children, Lester Swearengin and wife Mary of Wytheville, Marlys Swearengin of Buchanan, Roland Swearengin of Hardy, Vickie Lilly of Fincastle, Brenda Smith and husband Lennie of Roanoke, Sherry Webb and husband Doug of Millboro, and Donald Swearengin and wife Samara of Glen White, WV; a brother, Ernest Matheney of Millboro; 18 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Pastor Billy Gram officiating. Interment will follow at Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor. Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers will be Glen Swearengin, Nick Swearengin, Joshua Webb, Jacob Martin, Ben Singh, Owen Webb, Brandon Webb, Justin Webb, Logan Swearengin, Avery Swearengin, Isaiah Swearengin, Noah Canterbury, and James Carter. The family will receive friends on Saturday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
