Oaka Pack Wortman

Oaka Aretta Pack Wortman, 84, of Coastal Pointe Assisted Living, Shallotte NC, peacefully passed away on March 9, 2024 in her sleep.

Oaka was born to Sam and Evelyn Pack in New Camp, KY. When she was three years old her family moved to Pembroke VA, where she spent her youth until graduating from Pembroke High School in 1959. She attended Radford College and graduated from West Virginia Business school, Bluefield WV. She lived in Bluefield for several years before moving to Greensboro, NC where she met and married her husband Richard Lewis Wortman. The remainder of her life was spent in North Carolina living in Charlotte, Gastonia, Mooresville, Burlington and Shallotte. Oaka was married for over 57 years and leaves behind her devoted husband Richard, her daughter Angela Wortman Berrier, son-in-law Jeff Berrier and her 3 grandchildren Taylor Berrier Franks and husband Joshua Franks, Zachariah James Berrier and Joshua Macadan (Mac) Berrier.

She is preceded in death by her parents Sam and Evelyn Pack, sister Jane Pack Knibb and husband Donald Knibb.

Oaka will be interned at Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg VA on Tuesday, March 12, 2023 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Gary Poff officiating. A memorial service will be held on March 30, 2024 at 2pm at First United Methodist Church of Elon, where she was an active member for many years. Family will receive friends from 1p to 2.

In lieu of flowers the family ask for donations to Hospice of Brunswick County or First United Methodist Church of Elon.
