Onice Edeline Coleman Cook, 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 3, 2026.
Born on March 16, 1934, Onice lived a life defined by unwavering love, quiet strength, and faithful devotion to her family. She was a longtime member of Greenridge Baptist Church in Roanoke, where her faith remained an important part of her life.
Onice found great joy in tending to her flowers and gardens and was an active member of a local garden club. She was an exceptionally talented seamstress whose creativity and skill blessed many through the years. Above all, she treasured the time spent with her family, who were the center of her life.
She shared 68 wonderful years of marriage with the love of her life, Joe Miles Cook. Following Joe's passing, Onice honored his memory in a touching display of enduring love by placing a Hershey's Kiss on his grave every day, a simple but profound reminder of the bond they shared.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe Miles Cook; her parents, Garnie Bascom Coleman and Hettie Yates Coleman; her son-in-law, Billy Davis; and five siblings.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Teresa Stanley and husband, Curt, and Pamela Davis; her son, Kyle Cook and wife, Ann; her grandchildren, Bradley Hutchins and wife, Michelle, Chad Hutchins and wife, Stacy, Jesse Cook and wife, Haley, Mallory Cook Johnson and husband, Ben, Lacey Thomas and husband, JT, and Laurie Bevan; her special niece, Elizabeth Halterman and husband, Dusty, whom she loved as one of her own grandchildren; her great-grandchildren, John, Anneliese, Keyara, Cora, Bailey, Lily, and Ivy; her sisters, Dorothy Cantrell, Pauline Nuckels, and Diane Feazelle and husband, John; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
The family will receive friends at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem on Thursday, August 6, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of Lotz Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Moser officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Good Samaritan Hospice for the compassionate care and kindness shown to Onice and her family during her final days.
Though she will be deeply missed, Onice's legacy of faith, love, dedication, and selfless devotion to her family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
